| The SAACS chapter of Florida Southern College continues to encourage local primary and seconday school students to follow their interests in chemistry. This poster will report our community outreach efforts over the past year during National Chemistry Week (NCW), as well as additional outreach activities. Demonstrations were conducted at local primary schools. Students enrolled in AP chemistry were invited to visit FSC and conduct experiments using instrumentation not available at traditional high schools: computer molecular modeling, ferrofluids, and infrared spectroscopy. In an effort to attain increased member participation we sponsored cookouts, movie nights, philanthropy events, and provided free dinner with chapter meetings throughout the semester. In addition, the importance of green chemistry was demonstrated through discussions, posters, and experiments. |
