1,1'-Diacetylferrocene was synthesized through the Freidel-Crafts acylation of ferrocene. We will discuss greening this procedure using an ion exchange resin (amberlyst) as a replacement for phosphoric acid and use of microwave vs. thermal heating. The advantages and disadvantages of these changes will be discussed. The yields of diacetylferrocene and optimal conditions for the use of amberlyst will be presented.
