The Glenville State College SAACS chapter is dedicated to service to our college, community and to the personal growth of our members. Motivating future generations to pursue careers in science is critical to our nation's future. Accordingly, we presented ten highly interactive chemistry demonstrations at four schools across the state. At each site, we encouraged students to experience hands-on science presentations that emphasized scientific explanations and common uses for the observed phenomenon. Demonstrations and the conversations that followed motivated teens to consider careers in science related disciplines while building presentation and communication skills of our members. In the fall semester, we invited three scientists to present research seminars with topics ranging from lasers in chemistry to eastern hemlock in Appalachia. In addition during the spring semester, we assisted the science and math departments in hosting four candidates for a faculty chemistry position.
