Frequent quizzing is an important aspect of the POGIL classroom. However, the benefits of these quizzes may be diminished as the length of time it takes for students to receive feedback is increased. Use of the Immediate Feedback-Assessment Technique (IFAT) forms, allows students to know the correct answer to a question during the examination period. Both IFAT forms and written out questions were used on quizzes and exams in a large POGIL classroom. Student performance on individual questions on the final exam was evaluated based on whether they had been tested during the semester on a parallel topic using immediate feedback or standard techniques. In general, students performed better on questions where they had been tested using the immediate feedback technique prior to the final exam.
