| An up-to-date training model emphasizing fundamental knowledge and extending the specialty concept of many engineering college and/or universities, is described. Many specialties related to chemistry are integrated for an applied chemistry specialty. The nature of the specialty is also changed from an engineering specialty to a science specialty. After the scientific specialty curriculum system (both the concepts and the teaching times) has been put into place, the engineering characteristics and the practice-teaching segment should also be externalized and strengthened. Therefore, the serial and corresponding practice-teaching model for four-year undergraduate students is supplied in our specialty at the Harbin Institute of Technology, beginning with “basic experiments” and “specialty experiments”, following by “course design” and “science and technology innovation activity”, and finally ending with “graduation practice and graduation thesis”. Our nearly 10 years of analyzing practical results for undergraduates indicates that students cultivated by this model acquire abilities such as quick adaptability to different surroundings and new assignments, as well as better subsequent talents and innovations to complete science and technology tasks from employers. |
