| The kinetics of the synthesis of the ionic liquid 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide (IL) from1-methylimidazole (MIM) and 1-bromobutane (Br-Bu) in isopropyl alcohol as solvent were studied in a batchwise-operating stirred lab-scale glass reactor. The results show that the overall reaction was of second-order and the order of reaction for 1-methylimidazole and 1-bromobutane is first-order for each. The reaction rate constant at 323.15 K,328.15 K and 333.15 K is 0.0924 L•mol-1•h-1, 0.1692 L•mol-1•h-1 and 0.3228 L•mol-1•h-1,respectively. The apparent activation energy of the reaction between 1-methylimidazole and 1-bromobutane is 218 kJ•mol-1. Further, the reaction rate constant for 1-methylimidazole and bromoethane is 0.2926 L•mol-1•h-1 at 328.15 K, which indicated that the reaction rate of bromoethane with 1-methylimidazole was more fast than that of 1-bromobutane. |
