| Monomolecular cracking of alkanes was investigated over zeolites of different structure type and after different treatments. Large deviations in apparent rates and apparent kinetic parameters were measured for zeolites of different structure types; smaller changes were observed within a structure type. The apparent activation energies and pre-exponential factors showed a linear relation in a Constable plot. The enthalpy and entropy of adsorption was also determined and showed a linear compensation relation. Using the Langmuir-Hinshelwood kinetics formalism to interpret these data lead to the conclusion that the acid strength of zeolites and silica-alumina were very similar and differences in rates are mostly determined by the heats of adsorption and surface coverage. |
