Movies, television shows, newspaper articles and the internet provide many examples of chemistry, both good and bad, that can be used to initiate discussion of a topic or as a case study for students to analyze at the conclusion of a topic. This presentation will provide examples covering such topics as alkali metals, pH, nuclear chemistry, transition metals, chemical safety, thermochemistry and DNA and a discussion of how these examples are incorporated into the class.
