| Postdoctoral positions in chemistry education and certain related fields are becoming more popular recently. A Delphi study that involves a small number of present and former chemistry education postdoctoral scholars and some of their advisors will be carried out to address primarily the following questions: (1) What are the most important goals of a postdoctoral training in chemistry education? (2) How might such goals be attained? (3) How might a postdoctoral training in chemistry education be fundamentally different from that in a more traditional discipline in the sciences? (4) What might be reasonable expectations in postdoctoral training for future faculty candidates in chemistry education? This study may serve as an initial step toward understanding the nature of postdoctoral training in chemistry education and how such training affects the development of individuals, whose prior experiences likely include a combination of chemistry teaching and research, toward more productive academic careers in chemistry education. |
