Science education has always been a focus at Washington College since its founding in 1782. In the chemistry department, the American Chemical Society Student Affiliates chapter has been implicated in many instructive activities since 1980. This year's schedule of events started with a “Welcome Back” picnic for science students and faculty members followed by the celebration of National Chemistry Week which included a “Mole Day Breakfast” on October 23, a contest about recognizing the faces of famous scientists, and a presentation by Dr. Timothy Strein from Bucknell University on analytical chemistry. Future activities will involve a chemistry magic show at a local school, trips to museums, invited speakers, as well as many other social events. All of these events are intended to promote that learning chemistry can be fun and environmentally friendly. A summary of the chapter's activities will be presented in the poster.
