CHED 1557

J. David Van Horn, vanhornj@umkc.edu, Department of Chemistry, University of Missouri-Kansas City, 5009 Rockhill Rd., Kansas City, MO 64110
A tablet PC presents a bridge between chalkboard usage and electronic resources in the classroom. The nuts and bolts of using an electronic whiteboard on tablet PC will be presented focused on teaching organic stereochemistry. The types of touch screen technology and software available for electronic whiteboard instruction, and the solutions available for capturing lectures and creating an archival resource for students will be discussed along with other methodological strategies. Student responses from the Organic 1 course where the electronic whiteboard was employed will be presented, and the limitations and pitfalls of the instructional method will be discussed. Linking this technology with teaching activities, other software, and the Internet will be demonstrated; student feedback from organic chemistry courses will be presented.
