The newly reconstituted Barnard Chemical Society has rapidly developed into a major force in bringing chemistry to students in the New York City area. The Barnard women have provided leadership, knowledge, and excellent scientific role models for the chemists of tomorrow. Here are presented examples of the community volunteer work which has taken place over the past year culminating in a major undertaking in conjunction with the Columbia University Nanoscale Science and Engineering Center to bring about 'Nanoday in New York'. This NSF/NYSTAR supported program brought the science and technologies of tomorrow firsthand to underprivileged and underrepresented students in the tri-state area.
