Atom transfer radical polymerization has been successfully applied for the synthesis of hybrid particles consisting of inorganic core (silica, iron, iron oxide, gold or quantum dots) and various organic polymers. Synthesis has been carried out in bulk, solution and dispersed media. Density of grafting, molecular weight and chain architecture were systematically varied. Optical, magnetic and mechanical properties of the particles were characterized. Some potential applications of hybrid particles will be discussed.
