For many new to POGIL, two major concerns often arise. The first is obtaining or writing POGIL activities that meet course content requirements. This process can be time consuming and poses a significant barrier for most instructors considering using POGIL methodology. The second concern is that the class will not be able to cover the required course content using POGIL methods. In a second semester general chemistry course taught during a five week summer session, a hybrid POGIL-lecture method was used that permitted the course instructor to cover the requisite material but still permitted the students to obtain many of the benefits of a POGIL classroom. This was accomplished without the complete construction of an entirely new POGIL course. This was especially helpful since there was no option for changing to a POGIL based textbook. The details of methodology, materials, student outcomes and opinions will be discussed.
