A Panel Discussion to address Applied Chemical Technology Professional that work with Engineers in a wide varity of areas and responsibilities. Today, industry demands that a technician has basic chemistry and math skills and experience using numerous kinds of standard equipment. The technology of today demands technicians to continue to learn and evolve. Research/development technicians may include, but are not limited to, those working in laboratories, in pilot plants with Engineers, production, or safety. Process technicians work in manufacturing or other industrial settings. Technicians are required to use many kinds of equipment and instrumentation, designing new laboratory equipment or setups, to set-up apparatus, prepare compounds, performing tests and experiments. Technicians troubleshooting production problems and monitor commercial processes. They also test for quality, performance, and compositions of compounds or materials. They conduct a large variety of procedures and help develop syntheses and analytical procedures. Others may manage data files, monitor environmental impact from processes, work in pilot plants, shipping and packaging of chemical compounds, and may assist engineers in a variety of lab, pilot, or production experimentation and/or evaluations. Technicians collect and analyze data, write reports based on the results and delivering presentations on the work.
