Introductory remarks about the series: "Partnering for Innovation and Competitiveness," and about the current theme - "Opportunities and needs for the chemical enterprise in energy and the environment." A looming critical need to diversify collaborative efforts, while addressing issues of urgent global significance, compels the science, technology, and engineering enterprise to look beyond traditional federally funded programs. This session is Part Two of the series Partnering for Innovation and Competitiveness. Featured papers will focus on challenges and opportunities enabled by innovative partnering, particularly in energy research and technologies, as seen from an industrial perspective. The intent is for these symposia to start an on-going dialog started by asking thought-leaders to bring to the surface the critical ideas and issues. With follow-up actions, it is also our intent to not stop there but to keep the dialog alive and turn it actionable.
