On April 2, 2007, the U.S. Supreme Court issued its first ruling on climate change. It held that the Environmental Protection Agency had the authority to regulate greenhouse gases, and required the agency to reconsider whether to regulate greenhouse gases and ground its decisions on scientific information about whether greenhouse gases present a "danger" to the global environment. The decision in this case will be reviewed for its import on federal regulations as well as its effect on state programs regulating greenhouse gases.
