| Advances in nanoscale materials can enable unique opportunities at the interface between chemistry, physiscs and the life sciences. Here we describe the development of nanowire nanoelectric devices and device arrays and there application as powerful tools for the life sciences. The application of nanowire nanoelectronic arrays for ultra-sensitive, label-free, real-time detection disease markers and chemical/biological warfare agents will be discussed, as well as the efforts pushing the sensitivity of these nanodevices to limits that enable new applications in fundamental chemistry and biophysics research. In addition, the development of two-way electronic interfaces between nanowire nanoelectronic devices and living cells will be described, and their applications in neuroscience, drug-discovery and hybrid electronic systems will be discussed. |
