| The process of translocation of metal ions across cell membrane has been the subject of interest for many years. Alkali and alakaline earth cations have special relevance as they are required for osmotic regulation and conduction of nerve impulses. There are certain membrane proteins which are known to form ion channels across cell membrane and help in regulation of ionic balance. So it is important to know the mechanism of ion transport through these ion channels. Present work reports the ion conduction across planer lipid membrane and measurement of ion channel conductance for influenza virus M2 protein Ryanodine receptor protein and synthetic crown ether channels. Regulation of ion conductance and the effect of blockers (which can be drugs) is discussed.
