Vegetable oils were the original coatings, adhesives and lubricants. Natural oils continue to be pursued as alternative sustainable-resources for petroleum-based monomers, crosslinkers, solvents, reactive diluents, and polymers. Although vegetable oils do not always directly provide the desired properties, chemists are continuously searching for modification methods to further utilize oils as polymeric building blocks on a performance and green basis. The presentation will focus on current methods for modifying and incorporating vegetable oils in polymeric materials.
