Coherent Anti-Stokes Raman Scattering (CARS) microscopy is a label-free imaging technique using molecular vibrational spectroscopy as a contrast mechanism. Recent advances in detection schemes, understanding of contrast mechanisms, and developments of laser sources have enabled over orders of magnitude improvement in sensitivity, opening the door to a wide range of biomedical applications.
