The catalytic activity of various substituted molybdocene complexes toward nitrile hydration was assayed under a myriad of conditions including varied pH and solvent identity. Modified ancillary Cp ligands (including ansa and derivatized Cp substituents) were employed to modulate the electronics of the Mo-center and the structural metallocene unit. A comparison of their reactivity toward the hydration of nitriles will be used to assess how molybdocenes may be tuned for optimal reactivity.
