The mechanisms of fluorescence and phosphorescence are difficult for many students to understand. We capture students' interest with a number of real, "glow-in-the-dark" phenomena, followed with detailed explanation and animation using a series of PowerPoint slides. We further help students "get it" by using hand motions with rhymes, and finally tie the ideas together and cement them in memory through the use of five carefully written songs.
