Green Chemistry outreach events at Salem State College have been held with the help of Instrumental Analysis classes, Chemistry Society, and faculty of the Chemistry and Physics Department. Each of these events has a two-fold focus. One purpose is to educate people about the principles of Green Chemistry. The second focus is to make science fun and accessible through hands on experiments with real-world applications. The outreach events discussed in this presentation targeted middle school youth and those from people groups that are underrepresented in the sciences. These groups were middle school girls from northeastern Massachusetts through Women in Science and Engineering [WISE], middle school youth in Middlesex County through Kids to College, and middle school girls from Lynn through Girls Incorporated.
