The Fairmont State University Student Affiliates chapter of the American Chemical Society (ACS) is involved in many aspects of the community and university. Past projects include a mentoring program and demonstrations for homeschooled and elementary school children. The Student Affiliates club supported the FS mentoring program through a student ACS grant. The program allows successful upperclass students to pass on their wealth of wisdom by mentoring incoming freshman to improve their classes and experience at FS. The ACS chapter has been involved with the local homeschooler's program by inviting students to FS to enhance their chemistry experience. Experiments, tailored to the student's level of understanding and interest, insure a memorable experience for students. Demonstrations conducted at local elementary schools encourage children to become more involved in chemistry. The Fairmont State Student Affiliates chapter of the ACS strives to give back to the community while encouraging the youth to learn about chemistry.
