One of the challenges of teaching chemistry online is finding a way for students to have a meaning laboratory experience. One approached, examined here, is to use household reagents in a home chemistry lab. Assessment of this approach requires verifying student preparation with a pre-lab assessment as well as verifying student learning with post-lab assessments. Data gathered from several years of online chemistry labs will be presented along with proposed assessments for future courses.
