The first step to exposing students to the benefits of Green Chemistry is usually integrating it into the existing curriculum. While this brings student awareness to the benefits of this approach to chemical synthesis, it does not really educate the general public. Through the use of programming open to the campus, students and faculty beyond the sciences can be exposed to the twelve principles of Green Chemistry. The Chemistry Department in collaboration with the ACS student affiliates has made an effort over the last couple years to sponsor events open to the campus community that highlight Green Chemistry. In this outreach effort, our campus community has learned about non-profit organizations, academic research laboratories, government agencies, and chemical industries involved in Green Chemistry.
