The January term Science & Art course at Washington & Jefferson College is designed to engage the non-science major in an innovative setting. The course provides an introduction to topics from organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, optics, neuroscience, and the history of science within the context of art and the art world. Non-science majors have responded well to the lecture and lab format and have indicated an enhanced appreciation of the intrinsic significance and interconnectedness of both fields upon completion of the course. The course format, instructional methods, and student learning outcomes will be discussed.
