With only a few exceptions, the chemistry of [Ru(CN)xL(6-x)]n complexes has not been developed where L is a monodentate ligand and x is less than five. Substantial recent progress has been made in developing the analogous chemistry of iron cyanide complexes. These studies have now been extended to ruthenium. Among the new compounds which have been synthesized and structurally characterized are: (PPN)3[RuII(CN)5(CO)], trans-(PPN)2[RuII(CN)4(CO)2] and trans- (PPN)2[RuII(CN)4(CO)(pyridine)]. A new thermal synthesis of [RuII(CN)4(phen)]2- complexes has also been developed. Attempts to extend these studies to osmium will also be reported.
