Haloethanes: Pressure freezing, structural studies and development of "Legoland" architecture

High Pressure Diamond Anvil Cells (HP-DAC) have been used to pressure crystallize haloethanes of the type XCF2CF2X (X=Br or I). The role of these materials as important ingrediants in development of molecular "Legoland" architecture will be discussed.
