Part of being a successful Volunteer in Public Outreach for the ACS is being able to “Think outside the box”. The ACS provides many tools to use for special events such as NCW and Earth day, but we have to be able to find ways to use those tools in creative ways. My volunteerism started with National Chemistry week and grew to Kids and Chemistry,Chemistry Celebrate Earth Day, museum and mall activities, visiting schools, special events such as Scouts, church and community activities, and professional development for teachers. The more you practice your volunteer skills, the more ways you find to promote chemistry in the public. In this session I will show you how to start an action plan to get more volunteers, reach more public, get your activities publicized, and have so much fun that you will be constantly thinking of the next event to sponsor. “Hand outs will be given.”
