Personal care products and pharmaceuticals (PCPPs) in natural waters have become an area of interest for environmental chemists, biologists and health officials. Samples were collected from each step of the wastewater treatment process at the Greater Lawrence Sanitary District in North Andover, a 52 Mgpd facility located 30 miles north of Boston, as well as surrounding rivers and streams. Analysis for PCPPs was performed via the method of Thomas and Foster using SPE and derivatization for analysis by GC/MS. Results showing the presence and fate of many different PCPPs in the process will be presented as well as the background levels of some contaminants in surrounding waters.
