While POGIL has been established as a powerful learning tool in a variety of chemistry courses, materials have only recently been made readily available for implementation in courses designed for allied health majors. A recent text has made POGIL materials available for use in one- or two-semester General, Organic, and Biochemistry (GOB) courses that typically attract nursing students and other health-science majors. While the availability of this text is a marked advantage in making POGIL activities available for these allied health courses, the emphases of GOB courses vary greatly among academic institutions. Institutions that require more in-depth coverage of one or more of the GOB subject areas may require additional materials. The author has developed a number of activities designed to allow the use of POGIL in introductory biochemistry courses that require more in-depth treatment of subject matter. The development and implementation of these materials will be discussed.
