| Art combined with chemistry in various science courses at Salem College is beneficial. 1) Art-based laboratory activities are designed for traditional organic chemistry and biochemistry courses. 2) A chemistry and art course for non-science majors is very successful. The lab experiments are a highlight. Students enjoy being chemists and, for many procedures, being creative at the same time. 3) A January term course is designed for science and non-science majors to examine the relationships between chemistry, art and botany while exploring historical gardens in North Carolina and Virginia. 4) Additionally, our National Chemistry Week celebration is highlighted with a t-shirt tie-dyeing event. Applications from these traditional and nontraditional courses will be presented. |
