New aromatic diyne 3,5-Bis-(4-ethynyl-phenyl)-1-phenyl-4,5-dihydro-1H-pyrazole (1) is synthesized by mulitstep reactions. Copolymerizations of 1 with 1-octyne (2) are effected by CpCo(CO)2 in toluene, producing hyperbranched polyarylenes with high molecular weights in high isolation yields. The structures and properties of the resultant polymers are characterized and evaluated by IR, UV, NMR, TGA, and fluorescence analyses. These polymers are completely soluble in such common solvents as toluene, THF, chloroform, and dichloromethane. The polymers show satisfactory thermal stability. Upon photoexcitation, the DCM solutions of all polymers emit blue light of ~460 nm.
