| A series of acrylate-based LC copolymers containing triphenyl connected by ester bond mesogenic moiety and benzonic acid group were synthesized. Then, a series of LC ionomers that contain 0.1 mole fraction metal ion were prepared by the neutralization of LC copolymers with sodium acetate. LC properties of both the LC copolymers and ionomers were also studied by means of DSC and POM. It was found that the LC copolymers showed both smectic and nematic phases. On the other hand, the LC ionomers showed only a smectic phase. In the LC copolymers, with decreasing mole fraction of LC units, the temperature range for the LC property was found to decrease. A similar trend was also found for the LC ionomers, except for Ionomer-2. |
