| CaCO3 peanut-like particles with hollow structure have been synthesized for the first time via an easy solution route by polymer-controlled crystallization in the presence of polyacrylamide (PAM) (aged for 1 day). The obtained particles were almost uniform in size and shape. They had an average length and width of 10 and 5 µm, respectively. It is noticeable that the surface of the particles was composed of well-defined rhombohedral calcite crystals, but the inside of wall was composed of many small rod-like vaterite crystals. However, the sample which was aged in solution for 30 days was completely composed of well-crystallized calcite crystals. In addition, many CaCO3 hollow spheres were observed in the sample. FT-IR spectroscopy indicated that all the samples were polymer/CaCO3 composites. We consider that the peanut-like particles with hollow structure were generated by cooperative templating effects of the molecular template and the foreign static template of air bubbles. |
