A series of binuclear ruthenium polypyridyl complexes containing dibenzofuran and xanthene spacers have been synthesized. These complexes feature two coordinated aquo ligands oriented in a convergent fashion. The preparation, characterization, and initial electrochemical studies of these complexes will be presented. The catalytic activity of these complexes toward water oxidation to molecular oxygen will also be described.
