| As there is more interest now in designing courses for non-majors to get them interested in chemistry and the other sciences, art and art history work as an ideal scaffolding for this. As more courses get created, there is a need for art-based experiments that teach the fundamental chemical concepts in addition to exposing students to the chemical side of pigments and binders. Undergraduate hands-on experiments and project-based endeavors will work best to combine the aspects of the chemistry and the art together. For example, lab initiatives have been developed to have students use analytical techniques to identify pigments as if they were asked to authenticate a painting.
