We present experimental and computational results regarding the properties of mass-selected clusters supported on TiO2. We examine the structure of the Aun (n = 1--7) clusters, their diffusion, their interaction with CO and O2, CO oxidation, the charge exchange between them and the substrate and the role of co-adsorption. We show that most of the results can be understood as a consequence of the overlap of the frontier orbitals.
