Computers have long served a critical role in the storage, analysis, and importantly the communication of chemical information. The ability to quickly and easily visualize chemical structures has always been important and as such has witnessed many advances over the years. As part of this process, OpenEye Scientific Software developed VIDA with the goal of providing an easy to use platform for communicating chemical information. VIDA advances the standard of molecular visualization by providing seamless and simultaneous integration of 1D, 2D, and 3D displays of large numbers of molecules coupled with a fully functional, chemically-aware spreadsheet. Furthermore, VIDA provides the ability to easily save, restore, and share sessions as state files. States files are small enough to be emailed and can easily be embedded in web pages or PowerPoint presentations (using active-X objects) for wide distribution.
