| China is one of a few countries in the world whose energy production and consumption mix is dominated by coal. large amounts of coal use not only has caused serious of SO2 and NOx emisions, also substantial quantity of trace elements such as Hg, As, and Se has been released into atmosphere owing to their high volatility characteristics. In this study, By using the statistical data of coal prouction and consumption, as well as the selenium(Se) content of coal by province, the preliminary results of Se emissions is evaluated. It is estimated that the total atmospheric Se emissions in 2004 is about 729.0t. About 59.8% of the totals comes from coal burning by coal-fired power plants, and the majority of the total Se emissions released by the eastern and central provinces. |
