Pincer ligands offer a valuable pathway to construct robust metal ligand units and to control coordination geometry and shape in their metal complexes. The coordination properties of pincer ligands with Mn have not been significantly explored. Consequently, we have chosen to study Mn(PNP) complexes. The reaction of PNP (1) with Mn2(CO)10 produces (PNP)Mn(CO)3(2), that has been characterized by multinuclear NMR spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction. Synthesis of (PNP)Mn(CO)(X)2 X = olefin, H, halogen and a detailed examination of the possible applications in catalytic reactions will be reported.
