| Process-Oriented Guided Inquiry Learning(POGIL) is a student-centered pedagogic approach and philosophy based on an understanding of how people learn best. In a POGIL instructional environment, students work in groups on specially-designed activities to build understanding and develop concepts while at the same time improving important process skills such as critical thinking, problem solving, and communication. The instructor acts as a facilitator in helping students achieve these goals. The POGIL Project, funded by the National Science Foundation through the CCLI program (DUE-0618746), disseminates information about POGIL and helps instructors implement student-centered approaches through a number of activities. The presentation will describe the basic principles of POGIL and the various professional development activities that the POGIL project provides. |
