| Mo complexes containing the triamidoamine ligands [(HIPTNCH2CH2)3N]3- (where HIPT =3,5-(2,4,6-i-Pr3C6H2)2C6H3) have been shown to be catalytic in the reduction of N2 to NH3 under carefully controlled conditions. To elucidate the steric and electronic requirements for N2 reduction in these Mo systems, studies on analogous Mo complexes with ligand variations have been performed. Mo complexes containing a modification of the triamidoamine ligand, [(HIPTNCH2CH2CH2)3N]3-, where each ligand backbone contains an extra methylene group, were proposed as an interesting expansion to [(HIPTNCH2CH2)3N]Mo due to the expected increase in flexibility of the ligand structure. The synthesis and studies of [(HIPTNCH2CH2CH2)3N]Mo complexes including their applications to N2 reduction will be presented. |
