| Redox Regulation of Protein Tyrosine Phosphatase 1B function by an organic peroxide: Protein tyrosine phosphatases (PTPs) play a central role in the regulation of various signal transduction pathways. The intracellular signaling agent hydrogen peroxide regulates the activity of PTPs via oxidation of the active site cysteine residue. Subsequent reaction of the oxidatively-inactivated enzyme results in regeneration of the active enzyme. Here, we report the first example of redox inactivation of a PTP by organic hydroperoxides. |
