Ruthenium based olefin metathesis complexes are initiators for the controlled polymerization of cyclic olefins and dienes. Changing the ligand system allows for living polymerization, alternating polymerization and cyclic polymerization. This combination of control features allows the synthesis of a wide range of materials.
