Multisegmented degradable polymers were successfully synthesized by coupling, via Atom Transfer Radical Cross-Coupling (ATRC), dihalogenated polymers prepared by ATRP and dinitroxide. High molecular weight polymers (Mn>105 g/mol) with more than 10 cleavable units in the main chain were prepared. The ability of these multisegmented polymers to be chemically and thermally degraded was confirmed. Both chemical degradation, via basic hydrolysis, and thermal degradation, by heating in the presence or in the absence of free nitroxide, led to low molecular weight polymers with low polydispersity.
