The effects of the polymerization of styrene on the rheological behavior of liquid crystal system of CTAB/Styrene/H2O were studied. In hexagonal liquid crystal, the critical stress (CS), elastic modulus (G ) and viscous modulus(G) increased rapidly in the beginning 7h,from 15.22 Pa to 1453.81 Pa,1101 Pa to 79380 Pa and 660 Pa to 15613 Pa, respectively. Then the modulus increased slowly after 7h.In lamellar liquid crystal, the CS, G and G increased slightly in the beginning 5h, then increased rapidly, from 14.33 Pa to 21401.63 Pa,112 Pa to 16700 Pa and 5680 Pa to 171000 Pa, respectively. It showed that polymerization took place mainly in the kernel of stick micelle in hexagonal liquid crystal. And in the lamellar liquid crystal, polymerization mainly occurred in the micelle in the beginning 5 h, but it was found that styrene polymer tend to be crosslinked through the lamellar micelle after 5h.
