The epoxide-containing diazobenzofluorene FL-120B' was isolated from Streptomyces Chattanoogensis in 1994 and was found to exhibit potent antibacterial activity. Recently, the closely-related natural product kinamycin C was synthesized in our laboratory. In this talk, we will review our studies towards the synthesis of FL-120B'which features new annulation strategies for installation of the critical diazo moiety.
